Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn suffered an extraordinary collapse as she was beaten 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 by Colombia's Mariana Duque in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday.

After crushing through the first set 6-0, the Thai star looked to be easing her way into the second round.

But the Colombian player turned the match around, winning the next two sets comfortably as Tamarine lost her rhythm, making many unforced errors.

Tamarine had suffered a disappointing first round defeat at the US Olympics and had been hoping for a good showing at the US Open.
