Airports of Thailand (AoT) has agreed on the rent King Power International Group must pay for the use of additional commercial space at Suvarnabhumi airport, but revenue sharing is still being negotiated.
An AoT source said a meeting had been set for next week.
King Power, which has duty-free shops, has held the contract to manage commercial areas within the Suvarnabhumi passenger terminal since the airport opened on Sept 28, 2006.
The former AoT board found that the company's actual commercial space exceeded the area stipulated in the contract, which runs for 10 years.
The lease sets the space for duty-free shops at 5,000 square metres and for other shops at 20,000sqm.
The King Power management admitted just before the airport opening that its actual duty-free shop space was 8,000-9,000sqm and that the space for other shops had spread to 26,000-28,000sqm.
The previous AoT board said the figures were even higher and demanded the company vacate the extra area.
The present AoT board, appointed by the Samak government, has agreed to the extra commercial development, but conditions are still being negotiated.
It has been agreed the monthly rent for the additional space should range from 450 baht to 1,200 baht persqm.
Deputy Transport Minister Songsak Thongsri said the rates would apply from 2006 to this year.
Future rates would be based on the rent formula already included in the contracts of King Power International.
